Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, or Kad Luang (Royal Market) as it is known by locals, is one of Chiang Mai's biggest draws. Located right in the centre of the city on Ping River, it is easily accessible and if you are in Chiang Mai a visit is almost obligatory.

The market attracts huge crowds every evening and it is a great place to pick up trinkets and gifts. Given the market’s close proximity to the companies that manufacture them, the price of local handicrafts is attractively cheap here.

The market has huge arcades which hold a multitude of shops and stalls. The place is so packed that stalls actually spill over onto the footpaths around the market. It’s a big place to wander around, and you should put away at least a couple of hours to do it.

Aside from local handicrafts, you can buy virtually anything you can think of at the market - watches, silk, jewelry and more high-tech items like TVs and DVD plays and CDs. As with many markets, the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar also offers some of the best street food you are likely to come across.

Catering for the large number of foreigners visiting, the bazaar also offers camera shops, travel agents and Internet cafes. Be prepared to bargain - to get the best price you will have to. One service the bazaar offers that seems eternally popular is portrait paintings from photos. Alternatively, have your portrait painted in Thai costume!

Traveldote - Koh Phi Phi Thailand

Not everything opens and shuts in paradise. Which brings me to the question… does everything need to open and shut in paradise? And what exactly is paradise anyway? The definition of paradise is: "heaven" or "state of bliss". I was in a heavenly state of bliss when the window fell out of the wall one morning in paradise.

After injuring myself on a Benny Banana, I suspect a fractured rib, I headed out by myself for the last Pad Thai at P.P Cafe. Three Singha beers later and I was a bit past tipsy and found myself playing a game of Jenga with a "ladyboy".

Joy’s story was a tragic one and involved her getting her heart broken by an Australian boy (I thought his nationality was probably interchangeable depending on who was listening). She produced a photo album which documented Joy’s life from an awkward little boy, to an effeminate teenager, to the star of a cabaret show in Phuket. Her relationship with the Australian ended disastrously after four years. She was heartbroken so left Phuket for Phi Phi, where she is now a wasted talent as a waitress in a cafe.

Entertained enough, I went back to my room situated above a shop. The shop was run by an elderly couple. I had one more beer with the old man and attempted conversation but the only thing we understood was "beer". I finished my brew and climbed the stairs to my room but was stopped by the old man. He pointed at himself, then at me, then to his bedroom door. I declined graciously. He tried again but with a different approach. He pointed at me, himself, and then my room. I declined less than graciously the second time and headed to my room, alone, wondering what a seventy year old pot-bellied Thai man with a mole (complete with four inch long whiskers) thought I saw in him.

The next morning I was more than eager to leave. I had not used the window previously for fear of mosquito bites and had managed to survive with minimal ventilation. But this morning I decided to open it up and capture one last glimpse over the turquoise waters and the raw limestone cliffs. As I slid the window the grip of the handle slipped from my fingertips and the couple in the adjacent room awoke to a loud crash on the tin roof of the building next door. My window had fallen clean out of the wall.

It was time to leave.

Where: Koh Phi Phi, Thailand
When: November through to March
Why: To kick back in paradise with fantastic food and scenery.
How: Catch a ferry from Krabi (90 minutes) or Phuket (2 hours).

Review of Transformers Games

The pc versions of the Transformers popular console games have met with varying levels of success. There was a whole lot of anticipation for Transformers The Game when Activision announced it's release in 2007, with riveting game trailers depicting all-out action between the Autobots and Decepticons. Adhering to a common thread in video games these days, you could actually choose whether you want to campaign as an Autobot, or a Decepticon. Transformers: The Game didn't quite live up to the hype, as the graphics came through in a somewhat glitch-prone, although still quite fun, game. You can download the entire game here in the link further down.

As was expected, 2009s Transformers 2 blockbuster ushered in a sequel to Transformers: The Game: Revenge of the Fallen. It improved vastly on its predecessor, with lightning sharp graphics and gameplay that felt like you were controlling it, and not the other way around. While still hampered by a few technical problems, the riveting and sizable multi-player function more than made up for it; it can get so involved that you hardly even notice the bad. A few minutes learning the controls (these graphic-intensive games aren't for the impatient!) before going on one of the two huge campaigns is more than worth it, to save time later on. Possibly the most difficult thing about playing Revenge of the Fallen is transforming between your Transformer robot mode, and vehicle (car or aircraft) mode. Of course, this was nearly maddening in Transformers The Game, so we expected it to be hard. However, unlike its predecessor, it gets much, much easier as the game wears on, until you're practically as good as Starscream, himself!

The most enjoyable aspect of Revenge of the Fallen is its sheer familiarity. The Transformers are richly detailed (usually) and follow the movie's plot refreshingly accurately. The power wielded by each robot is impressive, to say the least, and you can transform into a robot, vehicle, or an actual weapon. Wait until you get a load of the firepower available in the last incarnation!

Transformers War for Cybertron improved on Revenge of the Fallen, garnering, for the first time in the series of movie-inspired games, mostly positive reviews. Although the robots were rather unfamiliar, due to use of their Cybertronian forms (as opposed to how we Earthlings see them), and the extra bulk they swung around in battle mode, the gameplay put all such complaints firmly to rest. Many reviewers called it "simply amazing", as War for Cybertron took care of all the frame-rate issues and choppiness of Revenge of the Fallen. They improved on the ability to transform; now you can do it instantly and easily at any time you choose, while maintaining full-weapons-functionality. When you include the recurring multiplayer mode, War for Cybertron becomes nearly as good as HALO.

Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon is coming to a theater near you on July 1st. In keeping with the previous movie releases, a new Transformers game will be released shortly before the movie: Dark of the Moon. As for gameplay, it has gotten progressively better with each generation, and while we should expect no less from the coming installment, with High Moon studios at the helm. For Transformers video game lovers, Dark of the Moon is a definite must, although the information is that there wont be a PC version this time around, unfortunately; it's only for consoles.

Advantages Of The HDTV Antenna

Almost 79% of households in the United States owning at least one television as well as a startling 66% owning no less than three, America is practically hooked on to the box! Are you one of these Americans who spend 244 billion hours in 12 months just watching television?

Considering the fact that television viewing ranks as the top form of entertainment world-wide, design in addition to technical advancements like HDTV antenna, have actually came into common use over the past several years.

The largest maturation in television technology may be the switch from analog to digital. Compared to analog, digital broadcasts give higher clarity in pictures and multiple programming options. For years, we have been using an antenna to stream analog signals from local stations. Using the advent of digital tuners, these signals are actually converted thus resulting to better images or pictures. With years, not only has channel streaming gotten better, but even TV monitors have become in size and image quality. Most households currently have set up High Definition TVs for a perfect streaming outcome, different sound and a general theater atmosphere. A TV this large and this crystal-clear unfortunately has the bad habit of amplifying each fault in the image quality. With this in mind, your better solution would be a HDTV antenna getting a myriad of channels in the perfect resolution.

Analog picture streaming, if it's still being used, usually is suffering from distortions in the images such as snow, ghosting, etc that could normally irritate the viewers. What is best with digital signaling while using HDTV antenna is that you get to have either the most effective it can offer - which can be sharp, perfect picture, or perhaps the worst, which shows no images at all. Although there are those who still prefer to have the analog, a big part do not relish the unsteady, babbling pictures and sound that may hurt their senses of sight and hearing. As even local stations realize advantages of high-definition, many of them broadcast standard definition digital signals in the daytime and shift to full HDTV during prime time to wheel in a greater number of viewers.

Upon acquiring a state-of-the-art television on your own, it gives you the responsibility of providing it with a compatible antenna. You have to weigh several factors first before selecting the best HDTV antenna and deciding where to put it for excellent viewing results. In their desire to offer as many channel options to their viewers as possible, cable and satellite providers try to apply data compression or use other techniques, but in so doing, also affects the quality of the pictures thereby resulting to soft images, numerous distortions and muddled presentations.
While OTA (over-the-air reception) has a few benefits too, you are much better off with an off-air antenna that allows one to enjoy HDTV programs at the full resolution it was made for. Furthermore, over-the-air HDTV could be availed of for free, despite the high costs that entail the buying and installing of the HDTV antenna.

Get important information on the HDTV antenna at our site. See how owning a TV antenna installation in your home can make all the difference.
